What is needed from our Foster Carers

We try to ensure that our foster carers are as little out of pocket as possible, but seeing as we are only funded by donations, sometimes food supply costs can impact our rescue.

Safe Home

We ask our carers to provide a safe and secure home with a soft bed and loving care.

Transport

Carer will need to pick up the animal if coming on transport and also be prepared to transport the animal to and from an approved Found Heart vet.

Play and Training

All our animals need play time and some may need a little bit of training, mostly toilet training, other may need more support than other, and our volunteers are here to help.

Care and Kindness

Some animals will be shy or scared, they have been through a lot, some may need medical care, we ask for kindess and patience during the initial period.

Top reasons why you should foster

Having a foster animal is a joy, and yes, sometimes a challenge, but it is truly rewarding in many ways.

  • Saving a Life

By helping us save an animal from the pound or abandoned on the street, you are helping save a life of a precious animal.

  • Temporary Commitment

If you are not ready for the full commitment of an animal, fostering is a good way to start.  It gives you the rewards of caring for an animals without the financial strain.

  • Giving them the Best Chance

Fostering is fun and it gives an animal the chance to settle in and show it's true character, which allowing us to match them to their new family.

  • Seeing them go to their new family

After helping them get through the scary times and grow, you get to see them excited about their new family, and sometimes you also get to meet the new family.

"Bringing an animal into your home means the world to them"

Found Hearts has some extra requirements.

Found Hearts have certain requirements that need to be met before you can become a foster carer, one of these requirements is a home visit or a virtual home tour to ensure your home is suitable for the type and breed or animal coming into your care.

Our requirements are all fairly normal, and align with being a responsible pet owner.  Our main aim is to ensure all our foster animals are healthy, happy, social and ready for adoption.

  • Your Home

Your home needs to be secure, is it escape proof? Some scared animal will test those boundaries, so it needs to be secure.

  • Quarantine (Decompress zone)

Some animals may require a quarantine period of 10 to 14 days, and a place to initially decompress, do you have a space for them?

  • Photos and Videos

You need to provide plenty of clear quality photos so we can add to the animal's profile to give them the best chance at adoption.

  • Treatments

All worm and flea treatments (which are provided) must be strictly administered on the due date and the animal coordinator notified.

  • Animal Information

For us to build an accurate profile for adoption, you must provide details about the animal, their traits that build their character.

  • Safe Transport

All animals must be transported in a safe and secure manner.  Cats in carriers large enough for them to stand and dog in crates or secure harnesses and straps.
